About How much does a waitress earn in Reno

How much does a waitress earn in Reno?
So, I'm thinking of going the University of Nevada, and it's expensive to live on campus, I mean, I save a lot if I choose not to. Anyways, by the time I would be attending the college I'll be around 21, and I was wondering if it's possible to live off of working as a waitress? Or cocktail waitress? Thank you. P.s. i'd stay in a studio or one room apartment. im frugal too.

URGENT!!! PLEASE HELP ASAP, I NEED A PLACE TO GET A FAKE HAIR PONYTAIL NEAR ME FAST!?
My hair is short, and I need one of those ponytail pieces you can use to make it look longer. I live in Dayton, Nevada, so a place in Carson or maybe in Reno could work. Preferably Carson City though. Cheap is better. Does anyone know of any store I could go to, to buy something like that? Thanks!!!!

I'm having a hard time finding work since relocating to CA, I do have skills and experience.?
I relocated from NY two years ago, spending a short year in Reno and now live in Placer Cty, CA. I have fourteen years of administrative experience in healthcare but finding it so difficult to find work here. Any suggestions? I have my resume on the major on-line sites i.e. Careerbuilder, HotJobs, Jobster and have registered with some national agencies-OfficeTeam, Apple One, and Manpower plus two local ones-Pacific Staffing and Certified Staffing. Oh, a local newspaper on-line as I want to stay away from the Capitol.

Register with several temporary employment agencies and work temp jobs. Many times, temp jobs can work into full-time jobs. This gives you the chance to feel out the company to see if you like working there and let's them see if they like you. Then if they offer you permanent work, you're already there! I've done it before and it has always worked out for me.
2 :
post your resume on Monster.com. Hotjobs.com and Careerbuilder.com and let some companies find you. Or contact some local staffing agencies and see if they can get you an a temp to perm job.

Well I have an online/offline retail business. We sell hundreds of products and also have many well-know partner stores including Barnes and Noble, Sony Music, Office Max, Eddie Bauer and more. If you have a good education background there are certain degrees, like a Doctor, Layer, Professor, Engineered, and so on, that allow you to get a visa that you do on a year by year basis and arn't to expensive. It is hard to get employment in another country, especially the USA, because in order to be sponsored most employers have to feel that you are better suited for that job then any American with the same credentials. Not just anyone can heir a non American. They have to be able to afford and justify it. If you have family in the states I believe they can sponsor you if they can prove that they can support you financially. Or go to school and work towards something that will improve your situation. Good Luck.

You file state taxes where you "live" and/or "work", depending upon regulations for those states. The state where your employer is headquartered has nothing to do with it. If you lived and worked in NY, you should have had your employer withhold NY taxes if a W-2 employee or "you" should have filed whatever estimated taxes for NY if a 1099 contractor.

About Should i put the Corporation that owns/runs my workplace on my Resume

Should i put the Corporation that owns/runs my workplace on my Resume?
Alright, I'm just trying to upgrade my Resume a bit and was curious whether it was necessary to put the corporation that owns my workplace. For example, I work for Reno-Depot, a hardware/big-box store chain in Quebec which was recently (4-5 years ago) bought by Rona INC. Do i say i worked at Rona Inc, but at the Reno-Depot branch, or just say Reno-Depot? btw: The sign on the building still says Reno-Depot. and my paycheck is still signed by Reno-Depot. it's just that the chain is owned by Rona

Below is the proper way to say it so that prospective employer exactly would know where you worked in the past. Since so many companies changing hands they are used to seeing it like that and appreciate it more. This way they don't have to raise questions and it is pretty self explanatory. Rona INC (previously known as Reno-Depot) between 2005-2010 (Here you enter whichever the branch you worked at) Followed by the summary of your jobs history there.. Good luck with job hunting RE: my paycheck is still signed by Reno-Depot, is because the actaual date of take over could be sometime in the future, in legal terms they still have to give your paychecks under the previous owner of the company until the "takeover day" comes.
2 :
If you were originally employed by Reno-Depot and survived the buy-out to also work for Rona, Inc., yes, it's a good idea to put both names. So say: Your position, time worked there (mm/yy - mm/yy) Rona, Inc. formerly known as Reno-Depot. ...and the bullet points highlighting your major responsibilities Good luck in revamping that resume!!

About What should I do about my inheritance and my job

What should I do about my inheritance and my job?
I recently inherited 4 houses, and 1 acre of land in Aspen, CO. My great-grandmother left me and my brother these places in her will. I had the houses inspected and appraised, and they are in good condition. All of my houses are rented at the moment. I've asked my family and my fiance their opinions about me selling, and they all say the same thing: "It's up to you." My brother has sold all of his property and he is moving back to NV this summer. Here is part of the problem: I'm 18 weeks pregnant, engaged, and I work full-time as a registered dietitian. Plus I am finishing up my last semester of Pharmacy school. My fiance is also a Pharmacist. I've lived in Arizona since my first husband passed away in 2002. My mom lives & works here, my grandmother is retired and lives with my mom. My mom is retiring from civil service in June and retiring to Reno, Nevada. All of my fiance's family lives & works in Reno, NV. I have a STABLE job here in AZ, and so does my fiance. I'm pretty sure I could get a job as a Pharmacist in NV, but that will take some time. My fiance wants to go back to NV as well. He can get a transfer with the company he works with, but I can't. I don't want to leave a stable job, great benefits, and excellent health insurance for something that might be a gamble. I'm getting married in less then 2 weeks, and I want to be sure that I'm doing the right thing. Oh I did forget to tell you earlier that one of my houses is located in Reno, NV. So I could relocate, but I would have to give up my job here. What should I do? I would greatly appreciate some advice. Thanks.

It sounds like you have ample assets to gamble on your future with. Your husband wants to go, your family lives there, you're about to have a child. There is nothing better than growing up surrounded by uncles, aunts, cousins, and grandmas. Reno sounds ideal. You already have a home, and your husband has benefits with his company i'm sure. Perhaps you could start your own pharmacy in NV? It'll be easier if you go. The rent from the homes, and your husbands income can support you until you find something new. Even if you don't reenter the workforce right away, you'll have more time to spend with the baby when it comes. Sounds wonderful to me. I would go.
2 :
do nothing until after the baby is born and all is well You can find a company there to manage the property's for you and receive the rent as a good start for your future after you graduate

About Anyone move to Reno from the Bay Area

Anyone move to Reno from the Bay Area?
I've been contemplating a move from San Jose to Reno. Just wanted to see if anyone else has done the same and if they can list pros/cons of Reno. Early 30's, one young kid to raise and two teenagers now. How are the schools? Obviously the cost is much cheaper, but I'm also in semiconductors, so work will be a challenge by leaving Silicon Valley.

well, we moved from San Jose to South Lake Tahoe, but that was back in 1980! Reno is a nice place- I still have lots of friends there and in Tahoe and Carson City, so I visit a couple times a year. The schools are okay, I think- I have a friend in administration in the Reno schools. Reno has really grown and has become a more family oriented town. There are places to go close by to have fun- like Tahoe for hanging out at the lake during the summer and sledding in the winter. There are some minor cultural amentites like some theater and symphony- nothing like the Bay Area though! The cons might be that it IS a town that revolves around gambling- we left Las Vegas for that reason- as well as there truly horrible school system. The snow isn't for everyone- it gets cold! But, the snow isn't nearly as bad as Tahoe- which is why we eventually left there! All in all, I think you'd probably like Reno. I'm assuming you've visited often and have checked it out pretty thoroughly. We've been in TN in a small town outside of Nashville for 7 years now, and it's the best place we've ever lived- we're here to stay!!! Good Luck!

I moved from Santa Cruz two years ago. Pros of Reno. Cheap! a nice 4 bedroom tract home in an upscale area will set you back well under 400k. Close by still to go to the bay area for weekends. Tahoe is nearby. Lots of retail and restaurant choices, also golf and bowling are evrywhere. Cons, possibly your job. Schools are iffy....The high schools are pretty bad from what I have heard they are called "dropout factories" meaning less than 50% of students graduate. Meth/Druggie people downtown and in other areas. Weather is crap. if you ahve any more specific questions let me know

About Do you think it's true that your next pay check my not come and your credit card may not work next week

Do you think it's true that your next pay check my not come and your credit card may not work next week?
Even if the business you work for is healthy and even if you have good credit? All this because Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Bill Clinton and Janet Reno forced lenders to start lending to bad risks in the 90's? In other words, this crisis was caused by political correctness being forced on the mortgage lending industry in the Clinton era?

lol no... Unless your bank is WaMu ;p
2 :
YES! The end of an economy is at hand! We should revert to anarchy! Burn your credit cards! Loot stores! There will be no tomorrow!
3 :
No, not true at all. And the crisis was not caused by PC being forced on anyone. The banks made bad decisions. That was more about greed than politics.
4 :
nope, not true. Your credit cards may not work next week, but that'd be a function of the bank deciding to reduce credit lines to existing account levels to reduce their credit outlays.
5 :
Anything is possible the way things are going these days.
6 :
No i do not . I think the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer but the rest of us will keep on keeping on. There is more to our economy then the housing market and the stock market. While oh so many will be hurt and the pain will go on for a long time we will survive. And just maybe we will chose our leader,s more carefully in the future. We should really pay attention to who they are and what they have done rather then what their party affiliation is. Let,s all pay attention from now on.
7 :
yes very true. I had all my credit cards (7 of them) mail my a letter saying since I wasn't using my extra money on my cards they are going to cut off that limit. Like they were trying to be nice. They are trying to stop shady folks who take on the money out of their cards and then file bankruptcy. As far as a paycheck I am not sure about that. As a good company I wouldn't worry about it, but if they are doing bad and are gonna file bankruptcy then yeah you might get screwed. Good luck and God bless cause this world is a mess. Oh yeah but yes Clinton did approve to have creative financing. It definitely jacked us.
8 :
NO. No decent companies have to borrow money to make their payroll. And people borrow too much on their credit cards anyway. The banking regulation that Clinton pushed through simply ALLOWED and ENCOURAGED banks to make loans to people under less strict credit guidelines. It did not FORCE anything. Worse still, the REPUBLICANS later pushed through a bill that allowed banks to lend 40 times the amount of money they held, when previously it was 12 times. If these banks had only net out 12 times their holdings, we would have NONE of these problems. And fewer than 5% of the current loans in default fall under the Clinton's revised "redline neighborhood" guidelines. Please understand your facts before you allow lies to be spread.
9 :
There is way too much borrowing on credit cards. I was raised with the philosophy that one should only buy a home and a car on credit. All other purchases should be made with cash saved for that purpose. To have to save for something teaches a valuable lesson. However, most people with reasonably good credit would not have begun over-extending themselves financially if they hadn't had their incomes reduced during the last few years by inflation caused by rising gas prices, exorbitant war spending, higher taxes on the middle class, and a declining standard of living. It is human nature to try to maintain a comfortable situation rather than take a hard look and be honest with your family and say "Gas has gone up again, what do we do without this month?" Greed is not something that has to be "forced" on anyone. It just comes naturally due to human nature. Greed must be regulated with laws or it will destroy the stability of our American culture.

About Moving to Reno to finish school and start a new life...any advice

Moving to Reno to finish school and start a new life...any advice?
I'm 26 & have lived in the Twin Cities (MN) all my life...attending different colleges through various majors including social work, special education, and some business--without finishing. I've lived in Hawaii a few times for a few months-- loved it, not just for the climate & leisure (esp. warmth and ocean), but for reviving a passion for life that I can't find here. I'm discerning a big decision to finish school elsewhere than MN. The UofM is academically terrific, but I'm considering the UofReno for an English major and eventually a CERTA. I've moved on from downward spiraling friends, am incredibly lonely, have a transferable retail job & envision a different, stronger pursuit of goals which I barely want to achieve here...I've always embraced transition & the unexpected. Reno's climate & proximity to recreation & entertainment is very appealing. Anyway, I'm intelligent & relatively street smart...friendly & ready for anything. Any insight from residents?...or others like me?

I don't know where Montego has lived before, but it is NOT bitterly cold in Reno or Lake Tahoe during the winter. Montego apparently has never lived in the Midwest where the wind chills make it seriously cold and you should know this having lived in Minnesota. These people here think it's old when it gets to 32 degrees! It does not get that much hotter in summer either. Las Vegas will be much hotter than Reno. Reno is not that small and has been expanding tremendously since I first came here in 1994. And there are lots of things to do there and up around the Lake Tahoe area.
